Animation Degree System Recommendations

For the Animation and Motion Graphics (ANI) program, every student must meet the minimum system requirements at home or plan to schedule time in the BMCC computer labs. This includes time outside of class to work on homework. Note that system recommendations may change without notice.

External SSD HD

Portable External Hard Drive — Due to the nature of the program, it is recommended that every student purchase an external hard drive.

• 512 GB or greater
• USB-C preferred

Laptop Recommendations If you wish to work on your ANI projects outside the lab, a powerful computer that could cost $1500 is highly recommended. If you are okay working in the lab, the specifications of your laptop do not necessarily need to match these recommendations. ANI students will work with both Windows and Mac computers.

Mouse:

• A 3-button mouse, regardless of working on a Mac or Windows desktop or laptop. Single button mice and trackpads are not recommended, especially in 3D applications. And specifically, NOT a Magic Mouse from Apple.

Mac Recommendation:

• MacBook Pro (14” or 16”)
• M2 Processor or above
• 16 GBs of RAM or above
• 1 TB of storage or above

Note: With Mac computers, you usually can not upgrade components after purchase, so it’s recommended that you future-proof your investment at the time of purchase.

Windows Recommendation:

• Intel Core i5 (Core Ultra 5) Series OR AMD Ryzen 5 Series (CPU)
• Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 or AMD RX 6900 (Graphics Card) Note: The GPU is one of the most essential pieces of hardware for digital artists, particularly for those interested in 3D or Game Design.
